All you need to know about the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations

As you are probably aware, the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671:2018) replace the 17th Edition on 2nd July 2018. BS7671:2018 will apply to new installations from 1st January 2019.

There are many significant modifications and extensions to the current regulations, to some areas, such as Protection against electric shock, and some areas have been completely revised. There are also several additions, including a new chapter covering devices for isolation and switching.

The link below will take you through to IET and gives a summary of the main changes, although it is important to be aware that this is not an exhaustive list:

You can fully update your training and get to grips with the new regulations here at GTEC on our 18th Edition Wiring Regulations 3 Day Course (2382-18-City & Guilds Level 3). This Certificate ensures you are up-to-date with all the latest industry regulation on wiring and the safe use and operation of electrical equipment and systems.

This course is for anyone who needs an understanding of electrical wiring (gas installers, kitchen fitters, plumbers and builders) and is 3 days in total. The cost of the course includes training, assessment, the certification fee and a course manual as well as lunch and refreshments throughout the day.

The 18th Edition Wiring Regulations course involves classroom-based training which focuses on the new wiring regulations standard BS7671:2018. There is no practical assessment, but candidates will be required to complete a 60-question multiple choice online exam, which will cover both the existing regulations and the changes. The exam is ‘open book’ which means that throughout the duration of the two-hour exam, you will refer and use your 18th Edition book. If you do not have the new 18th Edition book and preferably the revised 18th Edition on-site guide yet, we can provide these books for you at cost.

The course is certificated by City & Guilds and upon successful completion of the course and exam, you will receive a City & Guilds certificate approximately 4 to 6 weeks after the course date.
