Griff Thomas explains new IET Codes of Practice at Solar & Storage Live 2023

GTEC’s Managing Director, Griff Thomas MIET, has recently returned from Solar & Storage Live 2023 where he was speaking on some of his favourite topics – solar photovoltaics (PV), electrical energy storage systems (EESS) and electric vehicle (EV) charging

Solar & Storage Live is the UK’s largest renewable energy exhibition. It focuses on key technologies that will enable net zero, bringing together exhibitors, attendees and speakers from across the supply chain to create connections, explore challenges and share ideas.

The conference took place at the NEC, Birmingham, from 17th to 19th October.

Insider insight from industry experts

In his capacity as a member of the IET Code of Practice (CoP) for EESS committee and the JPEL/64 Sub-committee D, Griff joined forces with Graham Kenyon, an independent electrical engineering consultant who also chairs multiple IET committees, to explain some recent changes in the fast-moving sectors of solar PV, EESS and EV charging equipment, and provide some behind the scenes insight into what’s coming up…

3rd Edition of the IET CoP for Electrical Energy Storage Systems

The current 2nd Edition was published in 2020 but due to significant adoption of EESS and diversification of systems, the 3rd Edition is already underway. Griff and Graham provided insider insight into what’s been happening behind-the-scenes, outlining some of the proposed changes prior to publication and explaining why updates are needed so soon.

5th Edition of the IET CoP for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation

Exploring the drivers for change and what they mean for EV charging equipment installers and the industry. The 5th Edition was published in 2023 designed to reflect legislative changes surrounding smart charging and Part S of the Building Regulations, and the rapid development of EV charging equipment.

Requirements for the installation of Solar PV

Looking at some of the changes brought in with the 2nd Edition of the IET CoP for Grid-Connected Solar PV Systems and providing a ‘sneak peek’ at some of the changes in the Draft for Public Comment of the 3rd Edition of the IET CoP for Electrical Energy Storage Systems.
